James Greenwood

Mr. Greenwood is a senior advisor within Oaktree’s European Private Debt strategy. He brings more than three decades of experience across leveraged finance and private credit, with a focus on originating, executing and syndicating sponsor-backed buyouts across multiple market cycles. Prior to joining Oaktree, Mr. Greenwood spent 16 years at Permira Credit, where he served as chief executive officer from 2009 to 2023 and led the development of the platform into a scaled European private credit business. Before Permira Credit, he held senior leadership roles in European leveraged finance and sponsor coverage at Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Earlier in his career, Mr. Greenwood worked in European leveraged finance at Bankers Trust, where he was promoted to managing director in 1996, and began his career as a graduate trainee at Continental Bank, spending his final years in its European leveraged finance team.
