Michael Trefz, CFA
Managing Director and Head of Capital Formation, Americas
Mr. Trefz is a managing director and Head of Capital Formation for the Americas and is responsible for business development in the region. He joined Oaktree in 2019 with coverage responsibilities for large institutional clients and was elevated to Head of Capital Formation, Americas in 2024. Before joining the firm, Mr. Trefz was a managing director with Solus Alternative Asset Management, where he covered institutional clients for the firm’s offerings including distressed debt, special situations, and performing credit strategies. Prior thereto, he worked at Brevan Howard Asset Management, where he was a senior marketing representative covering institutional clients in the Americas for all of the firm’s strategies. Mr. Trefz received a B.S. in finance from the University of Connecticut cum laude and is a CFA charterholder.
