Alexander Bues

Mr. Bues is a managing director and head of business development in Oaktree’s GFI Energy Group, which executes the Power Opportunities investment strategy.  He primarily focuses on managing the business development function, identifying investment ideas, and sourcing investment opportunities.  Prior to joining the firm in 2025, he was a partner and Head of Origination at Soundcore Capital Partners, a private equity fund based in New York.  In this role, Mr. Bues led a team of origination professionals to develop investment theses and cover intermediaries.  He has also served on the boards of Heartland Paving Partners and U.S. Dock & Door.  Prior to Soundcore, he served as Head of Business Development at Wellspring Capital Management, where he led deal sourcing and evaluation efforts for their private equity fund, investing in the industrial, packaging, healthcare services, business services, distribution, and consumer sectors.  Mr. Bues has also held roles at Balance Point Capital and New Capital Partners where he focused on deal sourcing and execution.  He holds an M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a B.A. in economics from Denison University.
